Sump pump services
- New sump pump installs and replacements
- Battery backup pumps for power outages
- Check valves, float switches and discharge lines
- Pump testing and maintenance before storm season
Signs your sump pump is failing
- It runs constantly, or cycles on and off rapidly
- Loud grinding or rattling
- It doesn’t start when you pour water into the pit
- Visible rust, or the pump is more than about 7 to 10 years old
Why a battery backup matters
The storms most likely to flood a basement are the same ones most likely to knock out the power. A battery backup pump keeps running when the main pump can’t.
Common questions
How often should I test my sump pump?
A few times a year, and always before spring. Slowly pour a bucket of water into the pit and make sure the pump starts, empties it and shuts off.
How long do sump pumps last?
Typically around 7 to 10 years, less if the pump runs a lot. Replacing it before it fails is much cheaper than a flooded basement.
Can you add a sump pump to a basement that doesn’t have one?
Often, yes. MJ will look at where water is getting in and tell you honestly whether a pump is the right fix.
